REGINA, Sask. - The fight over the future of Saskatchewan's potash industry has pushed Premier Brad Wall and his Prairie brand of diplomacy onto the national stage.
Wall came out swinging in October when he opposed Australian mining giant B-H-P Billiton's takeover bid for Saskatoon-based PotashCorp.
The passionate stance solidified his position as one of the marquee talents on the Canadian political scene.
Former Saskatchewan premier Grant Devine says Wall is a gifted speaker who doesn't shoot from the hip, but does his research and his homework.
Even those outside Saskatchewan have noticed.
Queen's University business professor Louis Gagnon says the premier asserted himself and the provincial interest in a David and Goliath-like story.
The situation has left many wondering whether Wall has dreams of one day holding a higher office.
But the premier says he's passionate about the potential of the province and doesn't want to be prime minister.
Wall says he's got the best job in the country right now.
