China Oil Spill
Authorities in northeastern China have mobilized 1,000 vessels to help clean up an oil spill in the Yellow Sea caused by a weekend pipeline explosion and fire, the government said. Dozens of oil-skimming vessels worked to remove the slick off the port city of Dalian following Friday night's accident which spilled an estimated 1,500 tonnes of crude into the sea, news reports said.
Local fishermen clean up oily sludge by from the contaminated beaches at Nanhaitun, Weitang Bay. The explosion was caused when workers continued to inject desulfurizer into the pipeline after a tanker had finished unloading oil, according to a statement posted July 23, on the website of the State Administration of Work Safety.
