Three people are dead and a fourth seriously injured after a crash southwest of Edmonton Monday night.
Police say a car heading south on range road 40 at Highway 39 was hit by a pickup heading east on the Highway just north of Breton near the community of Alsike.
Three people from the car died on scene, a fourth was airlifted to Edmonton.
The victims have been identified as 20 year old William (Chad) Saunders, 21 year old Spencer Gustafson and 15 year old Morgan Hetchler.
Hetchler was a student at Breton High School, and the other two were former students of the Breton High School.
“They're coping,” says school Superintendent Brian Celli, “Any time you have something like this, a tragedy like this, in a small community it leaves very few people untouched. And so they are dealing with it but it will be a few days."
A young woman was flown to Edmonton hospital with serious injuries.
"It just leaves people feeling like they've been hollowed out in many respects,” says Celli, “Because all of a sudden these lives, these bright young lives, with their futures ahead of them are not there. And it leaves people very much in need of significant support while they put the pieces back together and realize life will go on in some way."
RCMP say road and weather conditions were normal and did not play a role in the crash.
Police say the car ran a stop sign before the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries.
