Alberta repeat sex offender has surrendered: lawyer
CALGARY — A man wanted on charges of sexually abusing a child while he was out on bail for similar crimes turned himself in to police Monday, his lawyer said.
Police issued warrants and a mug shot of Dexter Strawberry last week, after charging him with sexual assault, sexual exploitation and sexual interference of a child under six.
Strawberry surrendered himself at the Rocky Mountain House RCMP detachment. He was remanded in custody and is set to appear next in provincial court on Feb. 17.
He requires an interpreter for his native language Saulteau, said his lawyer Denise Lightning.
Mounties say a child younger than six years of age was sexually assaulted in a home on the Sunchild First Nation, about 170 km northwest of Calgary.
Strawberry, 54, is alleged to have fled the scene on foot after police were called.
