Drunk driving charges in crash that leaves five kids orphaned

EDMONTON — A married couple killed in a crash in Red Deer, Alta., early Sunday morning had five children, a family friend says.

The family friend identified the husband and wife as 34-year-old Brad and 35-year-old Krista Howe of Red Deer to Global News.

A Facebook memorial group was set up for them late Sunday morning.

RCMP have charged a 22-year-old man with drunk driving in connection with the crash.

The couple was killed when a pickup truck crashed into the driver's side of their small car around 2 a.m.

Chad Olsen of Sedalia, Alta. has been charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, two counts of impaired driving causing death and two counts of operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol level over .08 causing death.

Red Deer is about 150 kilometres south of Edmonton.
