Man in hospital after Calgary police shooting

CALGARY — Calgary Police say one man is in hospital after being shot by officers early Monday morning after he struck an officer with his car.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. when police attempted to pull over a vehicle. Police allege the driver took off, trying to run down an officer.

The officer was struck by the car and police fired shots.

Police found an abandoned vehicle about 10 minutes later. The driver was tracked down a short distance away, hiding, police say.

The officer injured was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police say.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the incident.
